2009 World Town Planning Day Online Conference
09-11-2009 |
USA
For the first time ever, eight planning organizations have come together to support a joint “virtual” conference for planners from around the globe in honor of World Town Planning Day.
This online conference will bring together a conference featuring speakers from around the world. It will include live voice and presentation links to presentations that will be held at various times throughout the three days of the conference.
Just announced!
Keynote presentations on Thursday, November 12 from Naison Mutizwa-Mangiza / UN Habitat and Phil Hill / Natural Resources Canada on the subject "The Role of Planning in Resilience to Climate Change."
Conference sessions feature planners from around the world who will highlight why their respective town, city or planning system will be resilient to climate change. The program seeks to showcase case studies and presentations that provide key insights into how professional planners are thinking about – and practicing – planning around the globe in response to climate change.
Presentations will focus on such questions as:
* What is it about your community or system that makes its approach to mitigating or adapting to climate change particularly effective?
* Why is it effective?
* What ‘lessons learned’ can other planners take from your experience that will guide them in addressing this crucial issue in their own communities?
Note: This conference is conducted completely online as part of efforts to reduce the carbon footprint resulting from presenter/participant travel. Presenting at this conference requires high-speed internet, although there will be a limited number of dial-up registrations available.
How You'll Participate/Technology Requirements
The visual component of the conference is seen via the internet on your computer screen. You'll access the audio component in one of two ways:
* Dial-up participants. You will make a long-distance telephone call using a landline, cell/mobile phone, or internet voice service (such as Skype or Google Voice) to hear presentations. You'll download a copy of the presentation slides to follow along offline during the presentation. See the Networking page (Under "Sessions" tab) for details about participating in the virtual networking event.
* High-speed participants. You will use your computer speakers or a computer headset that’s plugged into your computer to hear presentations. You'll watch the presentation and participate using a weblink we provide to you. Check your system requirements in advance to ensure you have a smooth experience attending. See the Networking page (Under "Sessions" tab) for details about participating in the virtual networking event. Click here for more information.
